June’s writing prompt was Play. Here we showcase all the responses that were submitted.
Blinding writing prompt: Sunlight reflecting off a window pane, bouncing off a wine glass, simmering across a rippled lake. Eyes squeezed shut, Cannot look away.
Moth To The Flame

Attracted
by bright flame
I circle.
Your fierce
embrace
scorches.
I
fall.
Wing
less.
Watching
pure beauty
from afar.

eyes can see through glitter

eyes can see through glitter
vanity sticks out like botched Botox
a spotlight on wrinkles
casualties of ambition
as agony settles in cracks
away from the glare
no plastic surgery can fix the wounds
audacity can leave generational scars

Moving Forward

In the warmth of the grass,
I know summer is coming to an end.
The sun pours its light,
yet it can no longer pierce the leaves.
What should we wear when our passion fades,
as autumn draws near?
Fatigue clings to my shoulders,
and I fall into slumber.
The evening breeze gently lulls me.
I gaze upon the ripples spreading slowly.
I’ll spend the rest of the year yearning for the sunglint on that lake.
Tiny ripples shimmer in my gaze,
tears trace my cheeks,
blurring everything into floating flakes.
When sunlight strikes me,
I see a figure staring at the lake,
a sketch of a face resembling mine.
It looks up at the sky,
stands still,
and waits for the rain,
as if the rain could wash away what evening tries to bury.
Sunlight shatters its shadow into sparkling fragments I recognize too well,
pieces of my memory,
or perhaps my longing.
When the ripples dissolve against the lakeshore,
I wake.
My tears have dried.
Barely a second has passed.
The lake stirs again.
I rise.
This longing consumes me no more.

And… Action

I have seen people who were the nicest. Drown in their own reflection the moment they dipped their toe, saying that they’ll never be as great as someone else but all they had to do was to let themselves find their flow.
I have seen people grow from shy, scared and fearful to power mongering and intimidating as they are experiencing what it feels like to feel the perception of being perceived as powerful for the first time in their lives.
I have seen people come out of the darkest times in their lives, struggling to pay for a loaf of bread, enter a farm field of camera’s picturing a smile shown through gritted teeth.
I have seen people work their whole lives to be the greatest in their fields, ignoring the people right in front of them, to be regarded as deep by people who do not know what it means to give anything your all.
Kid, you want the secret to all that you have in store, open your eyes to all that they are showing and decide for yourself, do I want to treat this as a profession or do I want to become their next obsession?

Blinding Love

You said so many times
I’m not your cup of tea
I should’ve listened
I’m sorry
I lost my pen drive
I lost your pictures
I lost you
It was not your fault
Distance dissolved our memories
Blinding love
I’m not your cup of tea
I should’ve listened
I’m sorry
