We put together a list of books with think would be on Lady Whistledown’s reading list.
If you’re like me, you’ll be eagerly awaiting, or should I say yearning for, the arrival of part two of Bridgerton season 3 on Netflix this coming week. If you wanted to distract yourself from the waiting, here is a list of books I think our season 3 main character Penelope would read if she were around in 2024.
One Day by David Nicholls

Penelope would lap up this slow burn, tragic romance. She would find solace in the will-they won’t-they plot of the two university friends who can’t stop finding each other throughout their lives.
Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton

Season 3 has seen best friends Penelope and Eloise not on speaking terms which is honestly one of the biggest heartbreaks of the series. Penelope’s desire for friendship is matched only by her desire for friendship and connection. After all, her romance with Colin Bridgerton was founded on friendship so Penelope would love this gorgeous ode to female friendship and love in all its forms.
Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare

Penelope would adore this comedy involving mistaken identity. Although a play and not a book I think this counts! Holding a secret identity of her own she would be gripped by this tale and all it’s modern adaptations like comedy romance movie She’s the Man.
Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers

A writer as a main character, an investigation into a claim of a virgin birth; Penelope would see herself reflected in these pages and adore the writing style of this historical romance long listed for the Women’s Prize for Fiction.
Although Penelope’s days seem to be more filled with actual romance that romance inside the pages of her books, she would love to read these books and many more. Any books you would recommend to Penelope Featherington? Let us know!
