Here’s what we think Annabeth from the Percy Jackson universe would be reading…
I was a big Percy Jackson fan growing up so I was naturally overjoyed that Disney plus were giving the franchise another go, after the cancellation of the movies many years ago. There is nothing quite like seeing your favourite fantastical worlds brought to life on the big screen, and so far it has not disappointed.
Since we are all diving back into the Percy Jackson universe, I thought it apt to consider what the characters might be reading. Here is a short list of the books I think would be on Annabeth’s reading list.
The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood

Although most of the demigods will probably be familiar with Homer’s Odyssey, I think Annabeth would be curious to read this retelling by Margaret Atwood, which gives us the story from Odysseus’ wife Penelope’s perspective.
Mythos by Stephen Fry

An approachable recounting of the origin of the gods. Annabeth would include this book in her reading to find out more about her complicated family and especially her mother, Athena.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I can see Annabeth tucking into this fantasy duology which is all about adventure, loyalty, and unexpected friendships. Annabeth is loyal to those she is close to so she would tuck into these books, seeing herself and her friends reflected in the pages. Not to mention the excitement and adventure filling the plot.
The Lord of the Rings by J R.R. Tolkien

Annabeth is courageous, destined to go on a quest, so she would lap up the Lord of the Rings series, drawn in by the fantastical world of adventure and friendship. The rich characters and world building would take her away from the complicated dynamics of her own life as a demigod.
Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes

After meeting Medusa and hearing her side of the story, Annabeth would want to do a deeper dive and hear another perspective despite her firm loyalty to her mother, perhaps beginning to question things she has always known to be true.
